Why It Feels Hard to Market Consistently (3 Drains That Cause Burnout)

For Asian women coaches & community leaders who want to show up more consistently without forcing yourself.

If you’ve ever told yourself “I just need to be more disciplined”, I want you to pause here 🫶

Because if you’re an Asian woman entrepreneur, discipline is rarely the problem. Especially as child of immigrants, you know it’s like to work 10x harder than everyone else.

And after working with hundreds of business owners like you, here’s what I’ve learned:

It’s rarely a discipline problem.

Most of the time, you’ve been taught to force marketing consistency a model that assumes endless capacity - like you can show up on demand all day, everyday and never crash.

But real life doesn’t work like that.

And for many of us (especially eldest daughters, children of immigrants, sensitive & ambitious humans), our capacity moves in seasons.

So this post isn’t about doing more. It’s about removing what’s quietly draining you, because:

Consistency is NOT a discipline problem. It’s an alignment problem.

When your marketing feels heavy or fake, it’s natural that you’ll stop doing it. Resistance isn’t failure, it’s feedback.

It’s your soul saying: “This way doesn’t fit. Let’s find a better one” 💫

The truth about “marketing consistency”

Most people talk about consistency like it’s a willpower test - either you can push through it, or you’re “just not consistent.”

But in my experience, consistency is rarely a character issue. It’s a design issue.

When marketing feels heavy, it’s usually because something in your approach is:

  • leaking energy

  • pulling you into performance

  • or asking you to do way more than needed to create clients

So instead of pushing harder, here are the 3 biggest drains that keep you in marketing burnout - and how to shift each one so consistency becomes more natural.

Drain #1: Forcing Yourself Into a Marketing Mold Creates Energetic Drain

When your marketing doesn’t feel like you, it costs more energy than you realize.

It’s easy to believe that if you just follow the “proven” formula, you’ll finally be consistent.

Especially for high-achieving Asian women who were trained to trust authority: “If an expert says it works, I should be able to do it too.”

But when you’re following a style that isn’t yours, consistency becomes exhausting because you’re trying to sustain a rhythm that was built for a different person’s nervous system.

For example, maybe you’ve experienced this too:

  • You’re posting at a pace that’s out of sync with your energy. Aka you post daily because “that’s what the algorithm likes”… but it feels like slogging through mud.

  • You’re forcing yourself into formats that drain you. Akayou churn out reels, chase trends, or cold DM strangers because someone promised it converts - while quietly resenting yourself the whole time.

  • You’re using a voice that doesn’t feel like yours.Akayou borrow someone else’s tone because it looks like success, even though it doesn’t feel true in your body.

And then you wonder why you can’t keep it up.

🌿 REFRAME:Consistency doesn’t come from grinding through a cookie-cutter formula.

It comes from aligning your marketing with YOUR natural energy.

And here’s the best part: you already know how to do this.

You’ve been breaking molds your whole life - as the eldest daughter, the black sheep, the first-gen trailblazer who carved a new path.

You got here against all odds, by trusting your intuition & following your own way.

And you can absolutely do the same in marketing.

✨ Here are some permission slips for ENERGY that unlock consistency:

  • Pick 1-2 platforms that fuel you, not whatever is trending. Focus on doing less, but doing it well in a way where you’d authentically thrive.

  • Lead with your strengths instead of trying to fix your ‘weaknesses’: if writing lights you up, skip the videos. If you’re a natural speaker, don’t force yourself to write. (Basically, you don’t have to be well-rounded in everything! You need a rhythm you can actually sustain).

→ Here’s a client story that I think will light you up:

One of my clients used to do the classic push-crash cycle: She’d rally, post consistently for two weeks then hit a wall and disappear. And eventually come back later feeling guilty & behind and start the whole cycle again.

She stopped not because she didn’t care but because her marketing required her to override herself. Her work was SO good, but unfortunately, people only saw it when she was running on adrenaline.

We shifted her marketing using the ROOTED Growth approach (aka marketing that fits her energy & actually converts), everything changed.

She didn’t just “feel better.” She had her biggest income month in 3 years 🤩

And the part that still makes me smile? She sold out her workshops & new offers while doing less.

This is why consistency doesn’t come from trying harder. It comes from removing the sneaky drains that make showing up feel like a battle, so let’s move on to the second drain ~

Drain #2: Chasing Approval in Marketing Creates an Emotional Drain

When your worth is tied to performance metrics (ie. likes and stats), you get drained before you even hit publish.

Because think about it: If marketing feels like an invisible exam, of course it’s hard to be consistent.

When your nervous system thinks you’re being evaluated, everything takes longer:

  • You overthink and edit every word

  • You ruminate endlessly about what your family / peers/ auntie crew will think.

  • You refresh stats obsessively, waiting for reassurance.

And hours disappear, before anyone even sees your work.

This pressure to perform hits especially hard for Asian women who are raised in the culture of “don’t lose face”. When your childhood taught you that being perceived can be risky, visibility starts feeling like the need to be perfect.

The good news? Consistency becomes much easier when you return to the heart of marketing: connecting with your people.

🌿 REFRAME:Marketing isn’t a test of your worth. It’s a love letter to the people who need your medicine the most.

The beauty of a love letter is that it doesn’t need to be perfect.

It isn’t written to impress the crowd. It’s written to reach one person with love. Saying: I see you. I get you. Here’s what’s possible.

(My clients love thinking about marketing as a love letter in this way, so feel free to borrow it for yourself!)

This shift pulls you out of performance and back into presence, which you know how to do as a coach - and makes showing consistently 10x easier ;)

✨ Here are some permission slips for EMOTIONS that unlock consistency:

  • Write from the heart: The words that land aren’t the perfectly polished ones - they’re the ones that come from your care, insight & experiences.

  • Focus on one person at a time. Forget the crowd and the judgy eyes - imagine one single dream client reading your words.

When you approach marketing this way: your words flow, your nervous system softens and showing up feels way simpler. THIS is how you reach the right people without burning out.

Drain #3: Hustling Harder in Marketing creates Time Drain

More output doesn’t equal more clients. It often just equals more exhaustion.

Since childhood, we’ve been taught that the harder you work, the better the results. So naturally when income feels inconsistent, you assume (like so many of us):

  • “I should post more.”

  • “I should do more platforms.”

  • “I should add more hours.”

But what we haven’t been taught is that there’s a point where hustle flatlines (for my Econ nerds, it’s known as diminishing marginal returns 🤓)

More volume spreads you thin, especially if there isn’t a clear path from: attention → trust → client.

That’s why it can feel like you’re “marketing all the time” and still not seeing results.

🌿 REFRAME:Results don’t come from doing more. They come from doing the RIGHT THINGS.

And in this case, it’s about making sure each piece of content has a job.

The entrepreneurs who grow steadily aren’t everywhere. They’re doing a few things with clarity & precision. For example:

  • Instead of posting daily just to keep up, they share enough intentional, conversion-focused content that makes it easy for the right people to say yes.

  • Instead of scattering their time across every platform, they double down on the 1-2 that actually create clients.

Depth beats volume every time.

✨ Here are some permission slips for EMOTIONS that unlock consistency:

  • Focus on the 20% of work that drives 80% of your sales. You don’t need to do it all - double down on the efforts that bring in real clients & let the rest go.

  • Create fewer, sharper pieces of content that actually land. Consistency isn’t about pumping out endless posts - it’s about making every word count so that it converts.

Inside ROOTED Growth, I help clients simplify their content & reclaim their time by focusing on the right marketing assets. And the juicy result?

Even when they post less, they still sign clients - because every piece of content sells for them :)

How Removing These Drains Helps You Market Consistently (Without Forcing Yourself)

When you remove the energetic, emotional, and time drains, marketing stops feeling like something you have to “push through.” And that’s when consistency becomes natural - because you’re no longer relying on adrenaline or willpower.

Instead of sprinting and disappearing, you build a rhythm you can return to.
Instead of posting more, you focus on the few actions that actually create demand.
Instead of performing online, you show up with clarity and let your words do more of the heavy lifting.

This is how you market consistently without burning out: not by trying harder, but by designing marketing that fits your energy and actually converts.

My approach to business has never been about more marketing. It’s about doing less - with more leverage :)
